Privacy
Nitramine runs nitramine.com. This page says what the site records when you visit, where it is kept, who sees it and how you can have it deleted.
What a visit records
When you read a page, your browser sends one short note to nitramine.com: the address of the page, the page you came from, the size of your screen, your browser's user agent and whether the browser looks automated. The server adds your IP address and the time.
The note leaves only after you scroll, touch the screen, move the pointer or press a key, or after the page has been open for five seconds, so that a program that loads the page and leaves is not counted as a reader.
Visits from search engines and other known crawlers are recorded by the server itself, with the page, the page the crawler came from, its IP address, its user agent and the time.
Nitramine uses these records to see which pages people read and which projects they come for, and to tell people from bots. The analytics code is Nitramine's own; no analytics service is involved.
Where it is kept
The records sit in a database on Nitramine's own server, rented from Hetzner in Germany. Nobody else gets them. They are not deleted automatically yet. To have the records of your visits deleted, write to the address below and name the day of your visit and your IP address.
Cookies and storage
nitramine.com sets no cookies. If you switch between the light and the dark theme, your browser remembers the choice in its local storage under the name "theme". It stays on your device and is never sent anywhere.
Nothing from other sites
Fonts, styles and scripts all come from nitramine.com. The site loads nothing from other sites, embeds no videos or maps and has no forms. The project links open other sites.
Server log
The web server keeps no log of page requests. When a request fails, an error message goes to the server log and can contain the IP address of that request. The oldest part of that log is deleted once it holds 30 MB.
Mail to marty@chempirical.com lands on Nitramine's own mail server, also at Hetzner in Germany, and is used only to answer you. Replies leave through Mailgun's servers in the EU.
